We have been here several times over the years and this week, we brought out of town visitors to have a great meal. We ordered several different katsu dishes and all were yummy. Our guests were very happy we brought them.

A popular spot for Japanese food beyond the typical sushi or ramen: tonkatsu, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, etc. But there are no reservations ahead of time (must wait in line) and, goodness, this place is LOUD during dinnertime! Because this place is usually busy around peak hours, the waiters don’t get to attend your table well and food comes out rather slowly. I’ve noticed this in both of my visits here.

I sat solo at the bar on a Tuesday early evening (right before 5pm). I was seated and eating the main entree within 15 minutes. There was an excellent mouthfeel, and the flavor was very enjoyable. The quality was definitely there compared to other restaurants I've tried in Kyoto, Japan with the same order. This Berkshire Pork Kastu Curry was $28 after tax, and the restaurant is close to Grand Central.

This is my first time at a restaurant dedicated to Tonkatsu. The 1/2 pound Bershire Pork was probably the juiciest fried pork I have ever had. The panko outside was crunchy and flaky without being too oily. The cabbage salad that they provide you is simple, but its elevated with their house made dressing. The restaurant is a little bit small and started to get really crowded around 6-7pm. If yoy want to avoid a wait I would suggest going around 5pm.

My friend flew in and just neeeded to get this place. This is the only thing he really wanted. I was surprised cus I never heard of it. (However he was confused cus it use to be in a diff location) Food - I really don’t find Katsu done well in nyc often but this place was perfect. All of the Katsu we got was large in portion. Juicy and delicious. Reasonable pricing. Great sides and sauces. I enjoyed it all and I wanna go back and try all the other things Atmosphere- we put our name down and only waited 10 min. However the line got long really fast so keep that in mind. Wait might be much longer. Service was swift and all staff were amazing. I got the miso on top of mine and honestly it didn’t need it haha

A very popular spot smack dab in the middle of Midtown's financial district. Honestly quite reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. I got the Brooklyn set which came with a delectable pork katsu, two fried chicken karage pieces, potato salad, and a surprisingly hearty soup too. Would come back again, but maybe without the finance bros next time.

If you’re craving the perfect pork katsu in New York City, Katsu Hama is the place to go. Famous for their Berkshire pork katsu, this spot delivers an incredible dining experience that feels both comforting and indulgent. I tried the miso katsu, and it was nothing short of amazing. The pork was perfectly crispy on the outside yet incredibly tender and juicy on the inside, coated with a rich and flavorful miso sauce that added just the right amount of umami. Every bite had that satisfying crunch followed by melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The meal comes as a set with soup, salad, and rice, making it a well-rounded and fulfilling experience. The portions were just right generous enough to leave you satisfied but not overly heavy, allowing you to fully enjoy every component of the meal without feeling overwhelmed. The miso soup was warm and comforting, the salad was fresh and crisp, and the rice was the perfect complement to the katsu. Everything was well-balanced, allowing the quality of the pork to shine. Katsu Hama doesn’t just serve great food it perfects a classic dish with premium ingredients, expert execution, and thoughtfully portioned meals. Whether you’re a longtime katsu fan or trying it for the first time, this is a spot that will leave you completely satisfied and eager to return.
